Team USA sweeps Team Norway to earn their spot at BlizzCon

Team USA has punched their ticket to BlizzCon after defeating Team Norway today 4-0. With the victory, USA earns a top two spot in the Los Angeles Group Stage of the 2018 Overwatch World Cup. Where Team USA will be seeded is still open, as they will face off against Team Canada later today to determine who will reign atop the Los Angeles Group Stage.

Norway had the chance to slip into one of the top two slots of the Stage, but needed a lopsided series victory over the USA to keep hope alive. The Norwegians finish the Group Stage 2-3 but still had a strong showing for a team that was pegged as an underdog coming in.

The play that all but clinched Team USA’s BlizzCon spot came on Volskaya Industries, when a perfect combination of a massive six hero EMP from Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombaro with a well placed Biotic Grenade from Grant “moth” Espe l eft Norway completely helpless. The team was quickly eliminated and sent packing back to spawn. Up 2-0 in the series, team USA was able to fully hold Norway defensively and with only needing one tick to win the map, they made short work of things during their attack run and clinched the series win.

While the series turned out to be a sweep, it wasn’t as lopsided as the score would lead you to believe. Norway did provide some resistance to the US team and showed true competitive grit. They exit the 2018 World Cup with valuable experience gained and their heads held high looking forward to next year.

Team USA now heads into a premier matchup with an undefeated Team Canada to see who takes the top seed in the Los Angeles Group Stage. The matchup is extremely important, as the winner guarantees they will not see a matchup with Team Korea until at least the Semi-Finals.
